This document provides recommendations to Journal and Publishers on how to ensure that data promised in a data availability statement (DAS) of a publications are actually available, thereby avoiding mismatched DAS. The recommendations follow the timeline of the journal publication process. Minimal steps for journals to ensure data availability promises match the reality are:

• Require a clear and specific data availability statement in every article.

• Provide author guidance with respect to best practices in terms of data sharing and data citation.

• Enable checks to ensure that data is available if availability is promised in the article.

• Include checks in review and proofing stage.

• Include procedures to correct the mismatched when detected
