Wilco C.E.P. Verberk
@wcepverberk – he/him
Wilco Verberk (1976) studied biology at the Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands and specialized in aquatic ecology. He obtained his PhD in freshwater Ecology in 2008, where he studied how aquatic invertebrates responded to rewetting measures in a raised bog remnant. To better understand the changes in species composition he developed an approach using species traits to unravel the causal mechanisms. During this period he was a member of scientific advisory boards to advise on restoration projects in floodplains and fens.
After his PhD research, he did a 3 year postdoctoral study at the University of Plymouth (UK), where he investigated whether thermal tolerance limits in aquatic ectotherms could be understood from a mismatch between oxygen supply and oxygen demand. In 2012, he took on a position as Assistant professor at the Department of Animal Ecology and Physiology, Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands, where he continues to study the ecophysiology of ectotherms to better understand their thermal niche and their life-history.
